#Paruppu Sadam ( Lentil Rice )

Yet another simple rice dish in south Indian style which is very healthy and easy to make. The word "Paruppu" means lentil and "Sadam" means rice. For this original version of recipe actually specific kind of lentil (Toor dhal)  is used. But I have replaced it with red lentil (masoor dhal) because this lentil cooks faster. Using Ghee for this recipe gives an unique taste and also good for health. But you could also use oil if you prefer.  Lets get into the recipe.....😊😊

  1. Measure the water and add into a pot. Add 2 tsp salt and keep it on a stove. Allow it to boil.

  3. Once the water is boiled add rice and lentil, along with that add chopped garlic, tomato, ½ tbsp oil / ghee, 1 tsp cumin seeds, ½ tsp turmeric powder. Give a good mix. Close the pot with a lid and cook it medium heat for 10-12 minutes or until the rice and lentil is cooked well. Keep stirring the rice after every 3 minutes so that it will not burn at the bottom.
  4. Mean while chop the onion, 1 clove of garlic and vegetables of your choice. Take a separate pan, add 1 tbsp oil/ ghee and heat it up. Then add garlic and groundnuts, sauté it for 20 seconds. Then add the vegetables.
  5. Mix them all well, then add ½ tsp turmeric powder, coriander powder, black pepper powder and salt according to your taste. Give a good mix and close the lid, cook it in medium heat for 7 minutes. Keep stirring in between.
  6. Check your rice and lentil consistency. If they are cooked soft and reached porridge consistency then take it of from the stove. Then add the vegetable mix into it and give a mix. Check salt in this stage and add if need some more.
  7. Finely chop the coriander leaves and add into it. That is it, your rice is ready.
