#Shrimp(Prawns) Curry in Goan style

Goa is a state in western India with coastlines stretching along the Arabian Sea. Goa is also known for its beaches, ranging from popular stretches at Baga and Palolem to those in laid-back fishing villages such as Agonda. This curry is made in this Goan style and it is a tangy spicy curry made using shrimps, a variety of spices, tamarind paste and coconut milk. Serves :- 2-3 people
Preparation time :- 15 minutes
Cooking time :- 15 minutes
Measurements :- in grams and in spoons

*tbsp - Tablespoon
*tsp   - Teaspoon

Ingredients

  1. Shrimp (Prawns) - 300 grams 
  2. Onion - 1 medium size
  3. Tomato - 1 medium size
  4. Green chilli - 1 ( if you like)
  5. Coconut milk - ¼  cup 
  6. Oil - 1 tbsp ( sesame or coconut oil or any )
  7. Salt - as per taste 
  8. Coriander leaves - few

For Grinding

  1. Grated or desiccated coconut - 1 cup 
  2. Dry Kashmiri red chillies - 5  ( skip this if you do not like)  
  3. Garlic - 3 to 4 cloves
  4. Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp
  5. Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  7. Tamarind paste - 1 tbsp

Method 

  1. Take all the ingredients which are given in the grinding part. Grind everything together into a smooth paste. Keep this aside. 
  2. Take the shrimps and clean them well. Add 1 tsp salt and let them marinate for few minutes. 
  3. In a pan add oil and heat it. Then add chopped onion and chilli, sauté them for 1 minute. Then add chopped tomato and cook for a minute. Then add the grinded paste into it. 
  4. Mix everything well, add cup half water and salt according to your taste. Let this mixture boil for 3 minutes in medium heat. 
  5. After 3 minutes add the shrimps and cook them inside this curry exactly for 5 minutes in very low flame. No need to cover the pan. Shrimps cooks faster. 
  6. Then finally add coconut milk and boil it for one minute. Sprinkle some fresh coriander leaves. The curry is done.
